Mrs. La Grange's Technology Classes The students in Mrs. La Grange’s classes are studying a variety of areas of technology this year. Students in the Internet and Computing Core (IC3) class have been working on achieving their certification in IC3, a globally recognized certification. Students with an IC3 certification are one step ahead in the pursuit of a career or a college degree! The IC3 certification is an accepted standard of basic computing knowledge. Many consider the certification fundamental to academic knowledge and a minimum necessity for employment in an office setting. The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends the IC3 certification for one college credit in general education and computer literacy. These students have also completed a course in Comptia’s Strata curriculum. This curriculum provides the student with a comprehensive knowledge of PC components, functionality, compatibility, and related technology topics. Once students complete the basic computer fundamentals, they have the opportunity to enhance their IT experience with the Comptia A+ and Network+ (N+) certifications. Students in these classes can exit high school with two to three technology certifications that are helpful in both college and career choices. Mrs. Spurlock's FACS Classes The FACS classes are working hard. The hospitality classes are learning to sew, and they are doing a great job. They are working on boxers, quilts, back sacks, purses, and aprons. They are having a fun time learning and growing in the sewing area. The eighth grade FACS class is learning about careers and learning how to cook. They really enjoy the cooking part of their classes. The culinary arts students are getting ready to learn to cook with meat and to do cake decorating. They are also getting ready to do the staff appreciation dinner, and they are excited about it. The dinner is lots of hard work, and it is very rewarding for the students. The students all work hard, and they have fun learning new skills. They are learning to do tablescapes, and they will use these skills at the staff dinner and at the Show What You Know Expo. “Come and see the exciting things we have learned this year,” said Mrs. Spurlock. “There is so much talent and ability in all they do and whatever they make. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to work with each and every student." Ms. Baird's Classes Students in Ms. Baird’s classes are involved in many interesting learning experiences. The eighth grade IC3 students are working hard to be certified. In order to be certified, they must pass three Certiport tests: Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications, and Living Online. Several students have accomplished this so far. The seventh grade Keyboarding students are currently working on power point presentations. They have been learning how to use different templates, insert clip art, show data by creating and using a pie chart, create designs, show data using line and bar graphs, and create and insert tables into their presentations. The Business Operations classes have just finished an entrepreneurial simulation. They presented their final business plans and power point presentations before a finance committee and are waiting to see if their business loan will be approved. They have just begun various Internet Office projects. The Human Anatomy and Physiology class is completing their learning about the various body systems.
